WARNING: Never leave a burning candle unattended, keeping far from the reach of children and
pets. Avoid burning them near combustible materials.
CAUTION: These ~Illuminations~ are not dripless! Burning candles causes the wax to drip,
and although beeswax is slower to do so, precautions should be taken to protect surfaces
from heat and hot wax damage. Even after removed, some fabrics will remain stained.
Avoid putting candles in drafts to prevent rapid, uneven burning, and excessive dripping.
FABRICS: place item in freezer, remove once wax is frozen, and chip off as much as possible.
If fabric is ironable, place it between several layers of paper bags or kraft paper, and iron
at the hottest safe temperature, so that wax melts into paper layers. Keep changing paper
and ironing till all the wax has been lifted. Try running boiling water through material
and/or wash as per instructions.
FURNISHINGS: only scrape with a sharp object and treat as fabric above if it will not damage
the surface. Wax remover may be helpful and found in many candle stores. The best protection
is to keep a cloth between the candle holder and the surface it is resting on.
HOLDERS: remove by running hot water over them and/or wax remover and a soft cloth.
Votives will clean easier if there is about a half inch of water in the glass along with
the candle. Best to burn in candle-holders and bases designed for burning wax.
CANDLES: low melting point components in the wax may migrate to the surface, giving it a
frosty or antique appearance. This is called "bloom" and can be removed by wiping with a
soft cloth and a light oil. Scented oils can be added for extra ambiance!
~Illuminations~ will fade over an extended time, so avoid exposure to bright lighting.
Before a special event, light & extinguish these ~Illuminations~. This should help them light
more quickly and easily later. It is also helpful to keep the wick trimmed to 1/4".
Avoid leaving parts of match and burned bits at the base of the wick. In addition to changing
the candle appearance, these particals can alight again, causing the flame to flare,
thus melting wax quicker.
The best policy is: always use wisdom and caution when working with fire & never leave your
flame unattended!
