Candle Magick

Candles invoke and utilize the ancient element of Fire, sacred to magickal transformation & set the best atmosphere for
        banishing darkness
        meditation
        divination
        spellcasting
        communication with unembodied energies

The symbolism of manifesting light in the darkness is essential to the power in the use of candles in magickal rituals.

Think of a candle as representing a human, with the wax body corresponding to the physical body, the wick is the mind, and the flame is the spirit shining through.

To divine using a candle, provide the following:
        A candle (with holder if necessary)
        A match or lighter
        Something comfortable to sit/lie on or in.
        A writing implement
        A "Book of Shadows" notebook
        A drink of water
        Find a peaceful, quite, safe, warm place.

Suggestions: outdoors, beneath the stars and moon (if she's visible!) and submerged in water, like hot springs, a hot tub, spa, or bath... water naturally conducts & increases psychic activity!

Take a drink of water & close your eyes.
Take as much time as you need to breathe deeply.
Attempt to clear your mind of daily concerns &/or the problem(s) at hand.
You're trying to
        clear your "in box" so the Universe can give you notes
        allow yourself time to discover your own wisdom, peacefully and privately
        give your body a rest, so your soul can speak

When you're feeling more centered and calm...
Open your eyes and gaze into the flame of the candle, attempting a trance-like state, in which images, symbols, people &/or words will begin to appear as part of the experience.

Witness and notice what you see, how you feel, what's happening to your body.
Allow yourself to experience whatever emotions are stirred.
The key to receiving here is to refrain from
        editing,
        judging,
        or attempting to control that which becomes realized.
Usually there is a period where things seem more random, less connected to one another.
With clarity and connection however, information received will accelerate, peaking usually with a sense of something "new received", maybe a crystal clear image, or even a phrase or sentence retained.

Now is the time to enter your experience in your "Book of Shadows". Even this action is another exercise in refraining from editing... it is not important at this stage to attempt to order or interpret the information, rather just to record it as quickly and as accurately as can be remembered, for later examination. Suggest that be done only after all initial impressions have been recorded and that a blank page or two is left after each entry in your "Book of Shadows", so that later you can update with post-impressions .
