The alchemical sign for copper is the same as the sign for the Goddess Venus. This is most likely due to the fact that the richest source of copper known to the ancient world was the sacred isle of the Goddess, Cyprus, whose name meant copper.

Copper is the magickal mirror of divination and associated with Friday, which is the day to honor Venus, and is even symbolically linked with the planet Venus, as is Silver with the Moon, and Gold with the Sun.

Venus-Aphrodite was often poetically called "the Cyprian" or "the Paphian", after the copper-isle or its major city of Paphos where her greatest temple stood. Within her temple stood her image decked out in copper. The healing properties of the Goddess are still attributed to copper ornaments.
